Strings
Poor forgotten strings
laid upon the floor between the bedroom and the door,
in loops and rings
How long have they lain there?
Derelict of all care
The cat's sometime joy when without other toys
Unused and bare
Strings
Misbegotten strings
Sewn to your soul by happenstance or fate,
such hateful things
Waiting for right hands,
for dictates and demands
To lift in the air and take up your despair
those were the plans
Strings
Old and rotten strings
Eaten by insects and ignored by mice,
oh how it stings
So when they are woken,
pulled taut then broken
Your heart set to pound as you leave the ground
Because I have spoken
Strings
Thrice belov-ed strings
Holding you high between ground and sky,
such as love brings
Strings
