Successful Business Woman by Doc

“Mrs. Smythe, I’m so glad you could join us here on ‘Women in Power’.  I look forward to learning about your new very successful and rapidly growing firm, ‘Men for Misses’.  So – how did this start?”

“Well, Miss Marr, I really owe it all to my husband.  I met him when I returned to school for an MBA.  If it hadn't been for his help I might have never finished that degree. “

“He was one of your professors, wasn't he?”

“Well, it started out that way.  I guess I saw him in another light, however, and – well, with my entrepreneurial streak, I saw a lot of possibilities in him.”

“You married him after only three months of dating, right?   He must have made a big impression on you.”

“You could say that, but… actually I was the one who made a big impression on him.  I hired – I mean married him – because I saw a lot of advantages for both of us in a merger.”

“He is now a full partner in your business?”

“He is.  He is on a bonus plus incentive plan I designed myself.   He looked over the contract I prepared and – after a bit of coaxing – agreed to my terms.”

“Can you tell us what your terms were, Miss Smythe.”

“Sadly I can’t share them here with your listeners.  The contract contains a confidentiality agreement.”

“Oh…. I see….  Your business consists in advertising for busy professional women who have no interest in anything permanent – like a marriage – but who need ‘helpmates’, much as you did as a student, correct?”

“Precisely!  We combine the best elements of a staff leasing firm, a dating site, and a networking and mentoring service.  When a man wishes to find a woman who needs any number of services, we arrange a meeting.  When a woman likes to find competent males available for any number of services, we first vet our male applicants and then provide the ladies a list of applicants willing to serve them as demanded.”

“Your business has had extraordinary growth over the past two years. Congratulations!  …   This is Jane Marr.  I have been interviewing 27-year-old entrepreneur and businesswoman Ellen Smythe, founder of ‘Men for Misses’, one of the hottest new businesses in our city.  Thank you for visiting with us today, Miss Smythe.”

The mikes went dead.  The two women arose.  They headed down the hallway.

Jane Marr turned to Ellen Smythe.  “Thanks for setting me up with Eddie, Ellen.  He’s at home right now doing my housework.  I sure wish I’d had him around when I was in college; he’s really a smart guy.  He could have been a lot of help back then!”

Ellen smiled.  “Is he responding well to training, Jane?  You do keep control, right?”

Jane said nothing at first, merely lifting a key hung around her neck.  “If he does good work I reward him once a week.  If he fucks up, nothing…. “.  Jane grinned.  Then she added, “How’s your husband doing?”

Ellen again smiled. “I don’t believe in weekly rewards.  I give him a once a year bonus package…  That’s enough for him.  After all, I’m the boss.”  She smiled.  “Oh, besides – he’s dispensable now.   I have lots and lots of ‘applicants’ to pick from every day of the week.  I like to vet the best applicants.  Would you be interested in assisting me?”

“Definitely!”, replied Jane.

The two women laughed as they walked out of the building.
