Lurcher and Whippet By Lady Persephone

Lurcher and Whippet (A real dream )

Veil of night swept sleep darkened lashes over my cheek
Windows wide,
Owl cajoled mouse and vole to clawed demise.
Nose to the warm breeze you and I sleek furred and proud
Stilled in expectation
Paws to verdant pasture.
Earth signals the cusp and our energies are released
Bound forward.
Launched at the horizon all bedimmed yet exhilarating,
Your sleek form at my haunch
Seed heads tumbling in our wake spinning and spilling future life.
Weightless wildfire in unison brimming with mortal zest.

Panting, tongues lolling, ears pinned by the warm summer air
Lark song,
Fox pounces on hapless chick neck sheared in a trice.
We turn towards the river eager to slake our thirst
Leap into the grey depths
Blood becalming chill.
Sunrise born in a single breath greets muzzle
Wet fur bedecking our bony frames,
Lush grasses propel their ripened seed to matted coats,
Towel ourselves on soft moss
Whippet paw clips lurcher bitch in the frenzy,
He cowers belly bared craving to exist at the sun’s setting
